Dr. David Steel is executive director of UL Standards & Engagement, leading the organization’s development of safety standards and translation of the knowledge gained from safety science research into practical policy initiatives and advocacy.
An experienced corporate reputation leader, Steel guides the nonprofit organization’s efforts to develop policy partnerships and campaigns focused on improving human health and safety. He spent more than two decades working across global communications, public affairs, marketing, and corporate citizenship in senior roles at Samsung Electronics. Most recently, he was Samsung’s executive vice president and head of corporate affairs for the United States.
Prior to joining Samsung, Steel worked at McKinsey & Company and as a researcher at Argonne National Laboratory. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Oxford University, an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago, and a doctorate in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Steel spent 2017 as an Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard University.
